|Los Angeles, CA — Louis Gossett Jr. is best known for his Academy Award winning role as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in the film An Officer and a Gentleman, and his role as Fiddler in the ABC television miniseries Roots—has signed on as executive producer for Ali’s Comeback: The Untold Story. This feature length documentary tells the incredible tale of Muhammad Ali’s return to the boxing ring following a three-and-a-half-year hiatus. Now in post-production, the film is expected to be completed in late 2018.
Comeback focuses on the efforts of prominent leaders in the City of Atlanta and beyond to secure the right for Muhammad Ali to fight in the City of Atlanta despite powerful and threatening opposition. This groundbreaking documentary chronicles the role the City of Atlanta played in granting Muhammad Ali a license to return to the boxing ring following over 50 attempts to return him to the boxing ring.
The film revives an era in the deep south where racial tensions ran high, yet this singular moment brought together the biggest names in entertainment and politics, to witness the seminal sporting event of a generation. This singular event sparked the exponential growth of Atlanta, Georgia as the capital of the new south.
The film is directed by Art Jones and Mazen Malas and produced by Frank Wheaton and Henry Woods. Mr. Gossett also appears as a narrator in the film. Mr. Gossett will be assisting in the final stages of the production, and actively involved with financing, and distribution of the film production.
As part of the partnership between Gossett and Dream Factory, part of the proceeds from the film will support Mr. Gossett’s Eracism Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides training for youth and adults alike that enrich their lives by assisting them in setting the example for living a racially diverse and culturally inclusive life.
