(Dec. 1, 2017 – New York, NY)  Futurist and “world soul” audio-visual artist Jesse Boykins III, the seductive LA-based songwriter/producer who is the newest addition to the artist roster of Def Jam Recordings, will release his concept album BARTHOLOMEW next Friday, December 8th.  To introduce the long-player to fans across the country, three live performance release events are scheduled:

  • Thursday, December 7th at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC (Tickets)
  • Friday, December 8th at the SCOPE Art Show at Art Basel in Miami Beach (Private Event)

(In conjunction with his performance at Art Basel, Jesse will be participating in a SCOPE panel discussion concerning the intersection of art and music.  In addition, he will be showcasing works at the SCOPE’s renowned annual international art show throughout the weekend.)

Jesse is confident that long-time fans will understand “the sense of progression” represented by BARTHOLOMEW, expanding his chronicle of a man navigating his way through the world and his psyche – building a reputation of being charming through his candor.  Jesse stars as Bartholomew, the astral man, as blunt as he is dreamy and explorative, in other words, the ideal Jesse.  The album package includes “Visual Expressions” and its companion short film which he categorizes as a sci-fi romantic comedy inspired by songs and moments on BARTHOLOMEW.

BARTHOLOMEW features a “who’s who” of rising musicians across the R&B, Hip Hop and Pop landscape, including Willow Smith, Odd Future member Syd (now of L.A. trip-hop band the Internet, Luke James, Noname, Little Simz, Bridgette Kelly, Dej Loaf and more. Fans can purchase BARTHOLOMEW merchandise now at www.BARTLOVES.shop.

Born in Chicago, Jesse Boykins III was raised in Jamaica by aunts and uncles while his mother attended graduate school. In addition to the hymns he sang in church, he was exposed to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and other reggae greats.  Later attending high school in Miami, Jesse was turned on to jazz and was selected in his senior year to sing at various events with the Grammy Jazz Ensemble in Los Angeles.  Jazz studies continued with acclaimed polymath Bilal at the New School in New York City, where Jesse learned Pro Tools and made his first experimental recordings.  Developing into a writer and producer, he debuted in 2008 with the 8-track EP Dopamine: My Life On My Back; and his first album, The Beauty Created.

BARTHOLOMEW follows up and expands the impressionist universe that Jesse conjured up on his last album, the critically hailed Love Apparatus of 2014.  “Singing songs of seduction and romance,” raved the Wall Street Journal, “Mr. Boykins’s voice is buttery smooth, his delivery designed to entice. The tracks … are rooted largely in sweeping and swaying, pulsing and palpitating electronica.  It’s a testimony to how great R&B can cross eras with ease.”
