Eagle Academy Foundation Scholars to Speak at the DNC

40 Eagle Academy Foundation scholars, along with the Academy’s founding Principal and CEO David C. Banks, have been invited to speak at the Democratic National Convention, Tonight, Tuesday, July 26th between 7:15 – 7:45pm ET. The theme for the day, A Lifetime of Fighting for Children and Families, will also feature mothers who have lost their sons to gun violence.

The Eagle Academy Foundation empowers at-risk inner city young men to realize their academic and civic potential with quality immersive learning experiences and proven community based practices that address short falls in public education.

The young scholars chosen to speak tonight represent the six Eagle Academy schools – five located in NYC’s five boroughs, and one in Newark, NJ.

The Eagle Academy graduation rate is 83%, exceeding both New York City and national rates for young men of color. 98% of Eagle Academy graduates are accepted to college, including prestigious institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, the United States Military Academy at West Point, Carnegie Mellon University, and Morehouse College.

All Eagle Academy young men embrace the Academy ideal that “hard work and strong character combined with academic achievement define success.”
